The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams played in their first tournament of the 2019 season on Saturday at the Fanshawe Invitational held at the FireRock Golf Club just outside of London.

It was a tremendous Georgian debut for women’s golfer Rachael Rier (Hanover). Rier took home the women’s individual title by finishing with a round of 78, defeating Humber’s Hayley McCallum by two strokes.

On the men’s side, veteran Jeff Ash (Barrie) had the best round of the Grizzlies golfers shooting a round of 76 to finish in the top five.

He was followed by fellow returnee Austin Morrison (Lloydminster, Alta.) who shot a 78 and Anthony Gognavec (Parry Sound) who finished with an 80 to round out Georgian’s top three finishers.

The Grizzlies men’s and women’s golf teams will have a busy week coming up.

First they will play at the Lakehead-Orillia Invitational on Wednesday at Hawk Ridge Golf Club in Severn.

They will then host their own home tournament on Thursday when they take part in the Georgian Invitational at the Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shanty Bay.
