The Georgian Grizzlies golf team travelled to compete at the 2021 CCAA Golf National Championships presented by PING from Oct. 11-15 hosted by St. Clair College at the Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor.

This was the first CCAA National Championship to take place since the start of the pandemic and featured teams from across Canada. All participating student-athletes, coaches, team staff, officials and volunteers were double-vaccinated from COVID-19.

The first three rounds of the event featured ideal weather for the fall championship, however the fourth round did not.

Due to inclement weather during the final round on Friday, play was suspended part-way through and eventually called with wet conditions expected to continue through the rest of the afternoon. With players starting on either the front or the back nine, scores from the fourth round did not count toward the championship and the results were final following the first three rounds of play.

Josh Taylor was the top placing Grizzlies individual golfer at the event. The Barrie native finished in 10th-place overall after posting rounds of 73, 79 and a team best 69 in the third round.

This was the best individual finish for a Grizzlies golfer since Matt Lemay finished ninth overall at the 2017 PING CCAA Golf National Championships.

Noah Leduc improved his play each day posting rounds of 77, 76 and 76 to finish the championship in 17th place. The Innisfil native was also presented the CCAA exemplary leadership award for the event.

After a challenging first round, Noah’s brother and provincial bronze medallist Christian Leduc (Innisfil) rebounded and posted totals of 82, 73 and 74 to finish in 20th place.

Garrett Watson (Penetanguishene) finished in a tie for 45th place with rounds of 82, 85 and 78 while Mason Skinner (Georgina) had rounds 89, 87 and 82 to finish in 55th place.

As a combined team, the Grizzlies unfortunately missed out on the fourth round of play as they improved their scores each day including posting one of the tournaments lowest rounds on the third day. The Grizzlies finished in a tie for 6th place overall with combined rounds of 314, 313 and 294.

This was the Grizzlies best men’s team finish since Georgian finished in fourth place at the 2015 PING CCAA Golf National Championship.
