BRANTFORD  An eight-run first inning was all the Brantford Red Sox needed Wednesday night in an 8-1 win over the Barrie Baycats.

Brantford, one night after losing to Barrie on the road, sent 12 batters to the plate in the home half of the first inning at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

The Red Sox needed only two hits in the frame, taking advantage of two Barrie errors, three walks and two hit batters. Baycats starter Christian Mullen (0-1) was pulled after failing to register an out six batters into the game. Mullen was charged with six runs (four earned) on two hits with a walk.

Offensively, Nick Burdett went 2-for-3 in the win, driving in two and scoring once. Colton Fountain had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Jesse Fishbaum, Ricky Murray and Zach Lampreia all drove in a run.

Mike Mueller (1-1) earned the win, giving up one run on 10 hits over seven innings. The Mississauga right-hander walked thee and struck out seven.

For Barrie, David LeBlanc drove in the team's only run. He was one of five Baycats to pick up a pair of hits. Jake WIlson, Mike Checcheto, Marcel Lacasse and Carson Burns were the others.

Seventh-place Brantford improved to 3-8, while sixth-place Barrie dropped to 5-7.
