Clutch singles help Baycats claw their way to extra-inning win

Barrie improved to 13-9 with the dramatic victory on the road, while Hamilton fell to 6-13

The Barrie Baycats' Noel McGarry-Doyle hit a key 10th inning single to help Barrie earn an extra-inning win over Hamilton.

Tyler Plumpton and Noel McGarry-Doyle’s 10th inning singles drove home the tie-breaking runs to give the Barrie Baycats a 7-5 win over the Cardinals on Sunday at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

Plumpton, McGarry-Doyle, Ryan Rijo, Owen Jansen and Brendan Colley each had two hits of the Baycats 11-hit attack. Plumpton had three RBI’s on the day while Colley added one.

Josh Niles had two singles and an RBI for Hamilton while Tristan Osika added a two run homer in the first inning enroute to Hamilton’s short-lived 5-0 lead.

Evan Soules (2-1) earned the win in relief of starter Adam Khan. Soules went four innings, allowing no runs on only one hit and one walk with five strikeouts. Khan went six innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and four walks with only two strikeouts

Daury Torres (0-3) took the loss, pitching the final two innings and allowing two runs, both unearned, on three hits with two strikeouts. Hamilton starter Aaron Duffy lasted only three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

Barrie improved to 13-9 and Hamilton fell to 6-13.
