SIMCOE MUSKOKA CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

The game of cricket has more than 2 billion fans around the world. For the first time ever, it will be offered to students at Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB).
On Friday, March 24, coaches from the Bradford Cricket club will host students from three SMCDSB high schools. This initiative from the Ministry of Education ties into SMCDSB’s ongoing efforts to affirm belonging and reinforce inclusion through diverse sports activities such as the global game of cricket.
Participants will learn the game, then test their skills in friendly competition against each other and their coaches. They will also go on to introduce cricket to a younger group of athletes – at their feeder elementary schools. This will create even more opportunity for students of different ages to try, practice and compete in cricket at school, in their community and beyond.
Lead of Experiential Learning, Bryan De Longhi says, “This is a great opportunity for students to be exposed to a sport, which is popular around the world, but not widely played by youth in Canada. It really lines up with our focus on diversity and inclusion, and we are truly excited about what the future may hold for this sport in our area high schools.”

Schools include: Holy Trinity (Bradford), Our Lady of the Bay (Collingwood), St. Thomas Aquinas (Tottenham)
