LONDON – The Hamilton Cardinals scored six straight runs to spoil London's home-opener with a 7-2 victory Friday night at Labatt Park.

Trailing 2-1 after three innings, Hamilton scored once in the fifth and seventh before pulling away with four runs in the eighth.

Justin Gideon and Luke Tevlin each had two hits and an RBI in the win. Connor Bowie drove in two and scored once, Chris Beer had an RBI and a run, and Mike Ceechetto added an RBI. Grant Arnold, Laine Renaud and Connor Patterson all scored once.

Tanner Guindon (1-0) earned the win, scattering three hits in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. He also struck out three.

Zackary Gonzalez started and went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Mike Ambrose and Evan Britt drove in London's runs. Steve Froese and Robert Doyle had two hits apiece.

Ismael Pena (0-1) gave up five runs on three hits in two innings of relief. He walked four and struck out three.

Owen Boon started and went 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Kitchener comeback sinks Royals in opener 

GUELPH – Kitchener struck for three runs in the top of the ninth inning to complete a season-opening comeback and beat the Guelph Royals 5-4 Saturday afternoon at David E. Hastings Stadium. 

The Panthers were down to their final three outs before two walks and three straight singles swung the score in their favour. 
Colin Gordner had two RBI in the win, while Mike Andrulis went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Tanner Nivins drove in a run, Mike Gordner singled and doubled, and Stephen Whalen scored twice. 

Mike Schnurr (1-0) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings of relief for the win. Jasvir Rakkar started and went four innings, giving up two hits and an unearned run while striking out five without issuing a walk. 

Sean Reilly drove in two of the Royals' runs. Ethan Mohan had an RBI and scored once, while Darius Barlas and Jeff MacLeod both doubled and scored. 

Brett Lawson (0-1) took the loss, giving up a run on three hits after taking over from Edwin Javier in the ninth. Lawson added a strikeout. 

Fernando Fernandez-Beltran started and went five innings, scattering five hits and two runs with a walk and six strikeouts. 

Leafs-Jackfish postponed 

WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish era will have to wait a little longer to begin after its season-opening home game scheduled for Saturday afternoon against Toronto was postponed due to wet field conditions. 

Welland joined the league in 2019 after moving from Burlington.
