BARRIE – A two-run eighth pushed the Barrie Baycats past Guelph, 4-3, Thursday night.

Ryan Rijo tied the game with an RBI single in the eighth and Barrie (4-0) scored the winning run when Adam Odd reached on an error, allowing Noel McGarry-Doyle to score one of his two runs. Jake Wilson had a hit and a run.

Adam Khan started and went three innings, allowing a run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Aidan Rossel walked one in a scoreless inning for the win. Brandon Hillier threw a clean ninth for the save.

Dalton Pompey went 2-for-5 for Guelph (1-2). Conner Morro and Ethan Hammond drove in the Royals’ runs.

Daniel Marquez (0-1) allowed two runs on one hit with two walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings. Claudio Custodio started and pitched into the seventh, giving up two runs on three hits with a walk and 12 punchouts.

Late runs give Leafs win over Panthers

KITCHENER – Toronto scored six runs over the last three innings to seal a 12-9 win Thursday night in Kitchener.

Trailing 7-6, the Maple Leafs scored three times in the seventh and added a few more runs in the eighth to improve to 2-2.

Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Justin Marra went 3-for-6 with two RBI and two runs, Dan Marra hit a two-run blast, Jason Zheng drove in a pair, Noah Chan had an RBI and scored twice and Greg Carrington singled twice and scored twice.

Zach Sloan (1-1) earned the win in relief. He allowed a run on three hits with five strikeouts over four innings. He followed Marek Deska, who gave up seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits over four innings. He struck out two.

For Kitchener, Andy Leader singled, homered and drove in two. Reece Reading went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs, Jett Jarvis singled twice, doubled and had an RBI and a run, Stephen Whalen drove in two, Tyler Hinrikus went 3-for-5 with three runs and a stolen base and Liam Wilson singled twice.

Luis Grisanti (0-1) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on one hit in the seventh. He walked four and struck out three in the 39-pitch inning. Jorden Carthy started and went two innings, yielding four runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks.

Jackfish stays undefeated after beating Cards

WELLAND – Welland racked up 13 hits and stayed undefeated with a 10-2 home win over Hamilton Thursday night.

Brandon Nicholson went 3-for-5 with a two-run blast in the first inning. Zarley Zina singled twice, drove in two and scored twice, Gianfranco Morello hit solo blast and scored three times, Tyler Dupuis drove in three, while Hogan Brown and Mike Wagner both singled twice.

Jake Harford (2-0) allowed one earned run over seven innings for the win. He scattered five hits and struck out eight as the Jackfish moved to 3-0.

Hamilton starter Ben Braun (1-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out four.

Laine Renaud singled, doubled and drove in a run, while Luis Jean had two hits, including a triple. Tyler Giancos had the Cards’ other RBI.
