BARRIE – Barrie Baycats jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings en route to their sixth win in a row, 13-6 over the Hamilton Cardinals Saturday night at Coates Stadium.

The Baycats are now one-half game ahead of the Kitchener Panthers and in sole possession of first place.

Kevin Atkinson’s three-run home run in the first inning and Kyle DeGrace’s two run homer in the second sparked Barrie’s 13-run, 15-hit attack and the Baycats 5-0 lead.

Atkinson went 2-for-4 with four RBI’s and three runs while Starlin Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with two RBI’s and three runs. Jordan Castaldo and Stevie Lewis each added two hits.

Adrian Salcedo (5-0) picked up the win, striking out nine over eight innings, allowing four runs, only two earned. He walked one and gave up nine hits.

For Hamilton, Grant Arnold was 3-for-5 with an RBI while Zack Gonzalez (0-2) took the loss, giving up 10 hits, two home runs and six runs in 4.2 innings. He walked six and struckout five.

Hamilton dropped to 6-7. 

Jackfish still in third

WELLAND—Welland Jackfish built up a 9-0 lead before the Kitchener Panthers got on the scoreboard in 10-3 Jackfish win at Welland Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Brandon Dadson went 4-for-5 with an RBI while Brendan Nicholson was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s to lead Welland at the plate. Colin Feuerstake was 2-for-3 with three runs and Bryce O’Farrell was 2-for-5 with a run.

Matthew Clingersmith (4-1) went seven strong innings, allowing only three hits and two runs while walking two and striking out four.

For Kitchener, Andy Leader went 2-for-4. Christian Hauck (2-1) started and lasted only two innings, giving up nine hits, nine runs with two walks and one strikeout.

Kitchener (13-3) is now in second place.

Majors victorious in six of last seven

GUELPH – London Majors’ three run fifth inning was enough for a 4-2 win over the Guelph Royals Saturday afternoon at David Hastings Stadium. The win kept the Majors one game ahead of Guelph with a 9-10 record.

Carlos Arteaga’s two run triple in the fifth led the Majors. Arteaga also added a single while Ismael Pena was 2-for-4 and Mike Ambrose was 2-for-3 to pace London’s nine hit attack.

Owen Boon (3-1) went seven innings, allowing only six hits, two runs and two walks while striking out eight. Pena finished up the final two innings for his second save, allowing only two hits.

For Guelph, Angela Villalona had two hits and Ethan Mahon had a run scoring single. Fernando Fernandez-Beltran (1-1) took the loss, allowing all four runs and eight hits in seven innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Guelph dropped to 7-10.
