Baycats fall out of first, Panthers have two games in hand

The Welland Jackfish moved above .500 with a 6-1 home win over the Barrie Baycats Wednesday night.

Brandon Nicholson led the offence with two doubles and three RBI.

DeAndre Asbury-Heath went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, Nolan Pettipiece drove in a run and scored, Andrew Mercier singled, doubled and scored twice, Bryce O'Farrell had an RBI, and Caleb Feuerstake and Brendon Dadson added two hits apiece.

Euclides Leyer (7-2) picked up the win, allowing a run on one hit with six walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

Fourth-place Welland (18-17) is a half game ahead of London. Brandon Catena (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out two.

Ryan Spataro had two hits and a steal for Barrie, which dropped to 24-11 and now trails Kitchener in the chase for first place.

The Panthers have two games in hand.
