Baycats drop both games in London doubleheader

Barrie's record falls to 3-4, but they are back in action Tuesday night when they host the Kitchener Panthers

London Majors pitchers came up big in a doubleheader sweep of Barrie Sunday at Labatt Park.

Owen Boon (3-1) shut down the Baycats in the opener, striking out five over six innings of a 5-2 win. He scattered seven hits, allowing two runs and walking two. Jarryd Lund struck out one in a clean seventh for his first save of the season.

Julian Johnson went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Humberto Ruiz singled twice and drove in two, while Austin Wilkie and Chris McQueen each had an RBI.

Brad Grieveson (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in six innings.

James Anderson had Barrie's lone RBI, and Noel McGarry-Doyle and Carson Burns had two hits apiece.

Four Majors' hurlers limited the Baycats to four hits in a 2-1 Game 2 victory. Hayden Jaco (1-0) started and went three scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing one hit. Braeden Ferrington went the next two innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits. He didn't register a walk or strikeout. After Lund gave up a hit and issued a walk in one-third of an inning, Mike DeLong finished up, giving up a hit while walking two and striking out two for his first save.

Carlos Arteaga had an RBI, and Ruiz picked up two of London's five hits.

Barrie's Burns went 1-for-2 and scored the lone run, which came in the fifth inning. Kevin Millar took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits over three innings.

He walked three and struck out two.

London moved to 7-2, while Barrie dropped to 3-4.
