BRANTFORD — Barrie sent 14 batters to the plate in an eight-run sixth to blow open a close game and hand the Brantford Red Sox a 13-2 defeat Friday night. 

Barrie had five hits in the inning and took advantage of an error, two hit batters, four walks and a passed ball to turn the game from 4-1 to 12-1.

James Anderson and Tyler Plumpton each went three-for-four. They combined to score five runs and drive in five. Carson Burns drove in three on three hits, while Owen Jansen went two-for-five with three RBIs and two runs.

Baycats starter Evan Soules (1-0) went five innings for the win, allowing a run on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Red Sox starter Bennett Moore (0-4) was pulled with two outs in the sixth after giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on five hits. He walked five and fanned five.

Spencer Jamieson drove in the lone Brantford run. Liam Sutherland and Troy Banks each had a pair of hits.

Barrie improved to 8-6, and Brantford fell to 0-12.

Cards pitchers shut down Panthers

HAMILTON — Three Hamilton pitchers combined to allow an unearned run on four hits in the Cardinals’ 5-1 win over the Panthers Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.

Aaron Duffy started and went four innings, giving up the unearned run on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Jacob Gajic (2-0) picked up the win in relief after tossing three scoreless, hitless innings. Daury Torrez finished up with three strikeouts over two innings, yielding one hit.

Offensively, Justin Gideon went two-for-three with a home run and two RBI. Sean Pettener also had two hits and two RBIs, while Anthony Buonaiuto singled twice.

Andy Leader had two of Kitchener’s hits. Christian Hauck (2-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.

Hamilton improved to 4-7, and Kitchener fell to 5-7.

Brownlee, Kandel go deep in Majors’ win

LONDON — Cleveland Brownlee and Keith Kandel each hit solo home runs in the London Majors’ 6-2 win over Guelph Friday night at Labatt Park.

Both players finished with two hits and combined to score three times. Taylor Wright went three-for-four with two RBIs and a run, Chris McQueen had three hits and drove in a run, and Gibson Krzeminski added an RBI.

Jose Arias (4-0) pitched into the eighth inning for the win, allowing two unearned runs on five hits over 7.2 frames. He walked two and struck out 11.

Ethan Hammond picked up two of Guelph’s five hits and also scored one of two Royals’ runs in the eighth.

Emilis Guerrero (2-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on 13 hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out three.

London is now 8-3, and Guelph slipped to 6-6.
