Barrie Rugby would like to thank local MPP Doug Downey and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for the $46,000 grant from the Community Building Fund.

The grant was used to help rebuild youth programs after the two years of the pandemic.

This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to rebuild community sports for our youth is great news for many in our community. There are many in the community who will benefit from this and it ensures that youth at all ages are able to enjoy team sports, especially rugby and the benefits that this sport provides on and off the field.

Barrie Rugby is thankful to be able to have a rugby development officer that enables the growth of the game of rugby throughout Simcoe County and Muskoka. The rugby development officer has been able to work with the Barrie Rugby Club and the local schools boards to grow the game and to ensure the players and coaches have the latest tools and technical support required to succeed in this sport. Thanks to the $46,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, people of all abilities will be able to access the sport that we at Barrie Rugby love.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated, as we rebuild Barrie Rugby to one of the largest rugby clubs in Canada,” said Andrew Davies, youth director and vice-president, Barrie Rugby Club. “This grant has allowed us needed funding to kick-start our youth programs.”

Barrie Rugby ran youth programs for boys and girls for all ages from under six to under 18. We are amazed with the development of these young athletes.

The Barrie Rugby Club is inclusive in our programs and we welcome diversity. Rugby is a sport for everyone. For more information about Barrie Rugby contact [email protected] or please visit the website at www.barrierugby.com or our social media.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation mission is to build healthy and vibrant communities across Ontario. As an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations, last year, OTF invested nearly $209 million into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund. Since 2020, OTF has supported Ontario’s economic recovery by helping non-profit organizations rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
