Five-time NBA champion Earvin “Magic” Johnson won’t be the only one bringing some magic to the 28th annual RBC JCC Sports Dinner.

Barrie Olympian Megan Lukan will also be inspiring guests at the March 3 fundraiser.

At the event, Lukan, who won a bronze medal as part of the national women’s 7s rugby team at the Rio 2016 Olympics, will be hosting a table and sharing her own magic sporting moments with guests.

“It’s such an honour to join this group of athletes, all with their own magic moment to share,” said Lukan. “How many Canadian athletes can say they’ve shared a stage, even a virtual one, with Magic Johnson?”

Lukan first started playing rugby at Barrie Central. She also had a four-year NCAA basketball career at the University of Wisconsin.

In addition to keynote speaker Magic Johnson, Lukan will be joined at the event by Team Canada field hockey stars John Smythe and Kate Wright, 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Laura Brown (team pursuit cycling), former Guelph Gryphon and Olympic wrestler Korey Jarvis, 11-time national boxing champion Mandy Bujold, and fellow Rio Olympian Kierra Smith (swimming).

RBC JCC Sports Dinner tickets are available for $36 at JCCSportsdinner.com. Tickets include access to an exclusive fireside chat with “Magic” Johnson and a silent auction with highly curated experiences and sports memorabilia. Only one ticket per household required.

The annual fundraiser enables Jewish Community Centre scholarships and programs for members of the community who wouldn’t otherwise have access.
