Barrie Baycats infielder snags IBL Player of the Month award

Kevin Atkinson hit .492 with seven homers and 27 RBI in June and is among the league leader in most offensive categories

CAMBRIDGE – The Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) announced Barrie infielder Kevin Atkinson as its Rawlings Player of the Month for June.

The 32-year-old had a memorable month for his hometown Baycats, hitting .492 (30-for-61) with seven home runs, 27 RBI and 17 runs. He added six walks and struck out nine times.

Overall, Atkinson is slashing .409/.465/.761/1.226 and is second in home runs (eight), first in RBI (33), and tied for third in runs (21).

Atkinson is the second Baycats player to earn Player of the Month honours this season. Jordan Castaldo was named the top player in May.

Barrie (15-5) is tied with Kitchener atop the standings as it attempts to win a sixth straight IBL title.
