Arias knocks the socks off Brantford, tossing two-hitter

BRANTFORD – Santos Arias came within two outs of a no-hitter, but the right-hander from the Dominican Republic settled for a complete-game gem in the Barrie Baycats' 10-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox, Wednesday night at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

Arias entered the ninth without allowing a hit and induced a groundout to start the inning. Jacob Reid singled to break up the no-hit bid and came around to score on Gianfranco Morello's two-out triple. Austin Wilkie singled home Morello to complete Brantford's scoring as the Red Sox dropped to 1-14.  

Michael Bannon (1-3) took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits over 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out four. 

Jordan Castaldo and Starlin Rodriguez each homered twice for the Baycats (12-2). Rodriguez drove in four, and Castaldo had two RBI and scored three times.

Barrie's Glenn Jackson went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run, Kevin Atkinson had four hits, Carson Burns singled, doubled and scored twice with an RBI, and Parker Walker had two hits and a run.

Arias (4-0) walked one and struck out six.
