Staff, students and the public are invited to Georgian College’s 11th Traditional Pow Wow – Moving Forward Together: Wiijigaabiwitaadidaa Niigaan Zhaaying – to learn about and celebrate indigenous culture and tradition.

This year’s theme translates into “standing together as we move forward.”

The annual Pow Wow, organized by students, staff and community members, takes place in the Barrie Campus Athletic Centre.

Attendees are encouraged to ask questions, have fun, sample food, and enjoy the day, says Special Events Co-ordinator Hillary Trudeau.

“Pow Wow is a time for people to participate, learn, celebrate and share culture and heritage through drumming, singing, dancing, feasting, sharing and laughter,” she says. “Once again this year there will be many talented dancers, drum groups and amazing craft vendors who will be selling their handcrafted wares.”

Doors open to the public at 10:30 a.m on Saturday, March 12. The spectacular grand entry will take place at noon and again at 7 p.m. for the evening session.

Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the event wraps up around 9 p.m.

Admission and parking are free. Donations of non-perishable food items to the Student Food Locker (an on-campus food bank for Georgian students) are encouraged.

For more information, visit GeorgianCollege.ca/aboriginal or contact Hillary Trudeau at 705.728.1968, ext. 1373 or [email protected].
