Arrest Made In Christmas Present Theft

BRADFORD - On December 26, 2015,  a resident of a Bradford highrise came to South Simcoe Police to report that a number of Christmas presents had been stolen from under his Christmas tree.

Using video surveillance from the building, officers identified and arrested a 42-year-old woman, also a resident of the building.

It is alleged that she entered the unlocked apartment on the afternoon of Christmas Eve and took the presents.

The woman was released on conditions to have no contact with the victim.

She will appear in court in February, facing a charge of Theft Under $5,000.

The value of the gifts was approximately $250.

Theft of Snowblower

INNISFIL - An Alcona resident is now shovelling, thanks to a snowblower thief.

On Monday, January 18, 2016, a St. John's Road homeowner called South Simcoe Police to report that, overnight, a thief had opened her garage and removed her red Toro snowthrower.

The 5.5 HP machine was carried out to the road before being driven off in a vehicle.

At this point, officers have no description of suspects, and are asking area residents to check surveillance video, or call South Simcoe Police if they saw anything suspicious. Crimestoppers will never ask you to identify yourself, and will take anonymous tips at 1-800-222-8477.

Break, Enter and Theft

INNISFIL - Break and enter bandits were also busy in the Commerce Park industrial area on Sunday night.

Sometime overnight, thieves broke into the Toromont Cat compound on Thomas Street by cutting through the rear fence.

Once inside, they cut the lock off another gate that leads to Reid Equipment.

From there, they stole a 2004 Ford F250 pickup, then returned to Toromont Cat where the thieves made off with $16,000 worth of cables and batteries.

Again, investigators are seeking the assistance of the public.

If you have any information on this case, call South Simcoe Police or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Unsafe Ice Conditions On Lake Simcoe

INNISFIL - On Monday, January 18, 2016, South Simcoe Police were alerted to the Lake Simcoe shoreline in Gilford, after a man riding an All Terrain Vehicle broke through the ice.

The vehicle sank in about 4 feet of water.

The operator was able to escape injury, and the vehicle was later pulled from the water.

South Simcoe Police remind the public that ice conditions on area waterways continue to be unsafe and unreliable.

Check with local fish hut operators before venturing onto the lake.

Fail To Remain Pursuit

BRADFORD - On Monday, January 18, 2016, around 7:40 p.m., two officers pulled out of the Bradford police station in time to witness a collision at the intersection of Melbourne Drive and Miller Park Avenue.

One of the vehicles, a white pick up truck, immediately fled the scene.

The officers pursued the vehicle, which fled through a local school yard, ramming open a gate and running over a chain link fence.

The driver abandoned the vehicle at the end of Regency Court and ran off, leaving his boots behind.

A barefoot man was arrested a short time later, a few streets away.

The 26-year-old Bradford man is facing charges of Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mgs, Dangerous Driving, Fail To Remain, Flight From Police, Obstruct Police and two counts of Mischief Over $5,000.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing Tuesday morning.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.
