Three caring and dedicated physicians from Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) were recognized by the Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP).

Drs. Brent Elsey, Kerstin Mossman and Anwar Parbtani each received the Award of Excellence from OCFP.

The Award of Excellence recognizes outstanding contributions in a specific area pertaining to the specialty of family medicine.

As family physicians, Drs. Elsey, Mossman and Parbtani play a vital role in RVH’s successful Family Medicine Teaching Unit (FMTU).

Now in its sixth year, the FMTU program, a partnership between the University of Toronto (U of T) and RVH, is one of the most sought after medical residency programs in the province.

The program, which received top marks recently through a University of Toronto accreditation process, is due in no small part to the hard work by all staff in the Family Medicine Teaching Unit and the fine-calibre of residents coming to RVH to learn.

“The success of the FMTU, which is one of the most sought after residencies in the country, can be attributed directly to the devoted faculty members who clearly work, in addition to their existing duties, to ensure these residents are balanced and knowledgeable family doctors when they begin practicing upon completion of the program,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO.

“Out of the more than 10,500 family physicians registered with OCFP, we are so pleased to see three RVH physicians recognized. It speaks highly to the dedication and commitment our physicians have to delivering the best possible patient care.”
