Swimming advisories posted.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has posted swimming advisories at the following Simcoe County beaches:

  • Conc. 13 West Beach in Tiny Township
  • Little Lake Park Midland Beach in Midland
  • Waterfront Park in Penetanguishene
  • Pete Petersen Park Beach in Midland
  • Hanna Park Beach in Muskoka Lakes

An advisory is a warning to swimmers, but it is not a beach closure.

During a swimming advisory, warning signs are posted when water contains levels of bacteria that indicate there may be an increased risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose and throat infections and stomach disorders.

Anyone choosing to swim during a swimming advisory should avoid putting his or her head underwater or swallowing water.

A beach closure is issued when an event occurs or an immediate risk to health is present. Sewage spills or toxic chemical releases are examples of thoe kinds of risks.
