That sudden rush when you meet that certain someone often precedes a procession down the aisle. But for everything to be just right on that special day requires planning. It’s a blessing that the snow is still on the ground, for it means there’s still time to go through all those plans before hearing the birds chirp on the way into the chapel of love.

Well-informed sources tell BarrieToday there are more than 60,000 weddings in Ontario every year, about 750 here in Barrie alone, and the planning process for many of those nuptials can get a boost this Saturday, at this year’s Barrie Wedding Expo at Liberty North on Caplan Avenue.

Anne Warren is co-founder and director of sales for The Wedding Ring magazine, and organizer of the affair. Warren says a good timeframe for planning the perfect wedding is anywhere from 12 to 24 months.

“If a couple has their heart set on a specific day/weekend in the summer then they may be looking at a year or two. If the couple is flexible and open to alternative dates, locations and service providers then they can plan in a shorter time.”

Warren also says there’s a wide range in choice of wedding garb, just as there are also sorts of wedding budgets.

“There really is no real rule or trend when it comes to wedding attire. Brides and grooms can have the simplest attire or the most elaborate. It really is up to their personal taste and budget."

Warren adds, “of course, the more extravagant the attire, the more expensive.”

The Ring's Barrie Wedding Expo offers local brides and grooms a chance to meet some of the area’s favourite wedding vendors to help them plan their weddings, whether this year or beyond, and Warren says that extends to “tuxedos, gowns, flowers, decor, music, invitations, venue, and much more.”

“Brides, grooms and their entourages are free to attend if they pre-register here or it's just $5.00 at the door.”

But, apart from weddings being Warren’s business, there’s an emotional reward as well.

“As the show organizer, I see myself as a matchmaker, introducing brides and grooms to the wedding professionals who will help bring their vision for their wedding day to life.”

The Barrie Wedding Expo runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, January 20, at Liberty North, 100 Caplan Avenue. To learn more, click here.
