Video emerges of Barrie cop car's window being smashed

Incident occurred on Dunlop Street, east of Owen Street, around 2 a.m. on Sept. 15

Barrie police are still searching for the male who damaged a police cruiser parked downtown earlier this month, but thankfully video of the incident has emerged online.

At approximately 2 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 15, witnesses reported seeing a male jump on to the back of the police vehicle and jump on to the back window, shattering the glass before taking off.

The incident was also caught on video by a second male who can be heard at the beginning of the video encouraging the man to “stomp the f--k out of it.”

The incident happened while the vehicle was parked on Dunlop Street East, east of Owen Street. The two males fled immediately.

The video has since been uploaded and is making the rounds on the internet and social-media sites.

Barrie police Const. Sarah Bamford says that while they have yet to find those responsible, charges will be laid when they do.

“It’s continuing to be investigated and at the time of the incident our officers were on foot patrol throughout the downtown core and surrounding area,” Bamford said. “At minimum, this individual will be facing a charge of mischief over $5,000, although as the investigation continues further charges may be laid.”
