INNISFIL - A 25-year-old Innisfil man is charged with impaired driving and over 80 after a vehicle nearly struck an officer and then wound up in a ditch.

On Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 around 1 a.m., officers were in the area of Northern Avenue and Lakelands for a call. While police were on scene, a vehicle travelling at a slow rate of speed was driving directly towards the officers. Officers attempted to alert the vehicle but it continued in its path causing one officer to jump out of the way to avoid being struck. Police then attempted to stop the vehicle but it ended up in a ditch on Hastings Avenue after failing to navigate a turn.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol impairment. The driver was placed under arrest for Impaired care or control and transported to North Division. Further testing resulted in readings of more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.

The man's licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded. He was released with a future court date.
