Vehicle hits tree, driver charged with impaired

TAY TOWNSHIP – On February 4, 2016 at 3:11 a.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a motor vehicle that had struck a tree on William Street in Tay Township.

The lone male occupant of the motor vehicle was at the scene when officers arrived a short time later.

Upon speaking to the male an officer detected a smell of alcohol.

The officer made the demand for a roadside test.

The result of the test was a fail.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment for further tests.

As a result of the tests, the driver identified as Colton Joseph PATENAUDE-HAWKE (age 20) of Tay Township has been charged with:

  • Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle contrary to the criminal Code of Canada

  • Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

He was also served a 90 day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland, Ontario on February 18, 2016.
