Two more Barrie Transit workers test positive for COVID, bringing total to nine

Workplace outbreak was declared April 15 by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit

Two more positive cases of COVID-19 in Barrie’s transit department have city officials trying to get the declared workplace outbreak under control.

There are now nine positive COVID-19 cases with Barrie Transit employees in isolation.

On April 15, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared a workplace outbreak because of a possible link between two of the confirmed cases. At this time, it is not known if the two newest cases have not been linked to the previous cases.

Earlier on Wednesday, city transit director Brent Forsyth told BarrieToday there would be temporary reduction in frequency on Routes 1, 6 and 100 as Barrie Transit follows health protocols.

Riders are asked to check the MyRide website before departing for their trip.

The union that represents Barrie Transit drivers and maintenance, the City of Barrie and Barrie Transit say they are working together to push to have local transit workers vaccinated sooner than later.
