Two Barrie residents among 23 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka today

Health unit says 326,249 people, or 54% of region's total population, have received their first dose of vaccination

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 23 new COVID-19 cases and one new deaths today (June 2). 

There are currently 286 cases in the region still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,954 cases of COVID-19, with 11,002 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 25 people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which is unchanged from yesterday. 

The health unit has reported a total of 4,624 variant strain cases, with 177 of those still active. 

The health unit says 326,249 (54 per cent) of the total population of Simcoe-Muskoka residents have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19. Of those, 39,127 people (6.5 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Collingwood (0): Zero new cases reported
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One person between the age of 65 and 79.
  • Clearview (1): One person between the age of 65 and 79.
  • Springwater (0): Zero new cases.
  • Barrie (2): One person between the age of 18 and 34 and one person between the ages of 45 and 64. One case was from close contact.
  • Innisfil (2): One person between 18 and 34, and one person between 35 and 44years old. One is outbreak-related and one is from close contact.
  • Bradford (1): One person people between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Orillia (6): One person between 18 and 34, and five people between 45 and 64 years old. One case was community acquired. Three were from close contact.
  • Tiny (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Essa (2): One person between 18 and 34 and one person between the age of 35 and 44.
  • New Tecumseth (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Midland (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Tay (1): One person between the age of 45 and 64. The case was due to close contact.
  • Severn (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Penetanguishene (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (0): Zero new cases.
  • Ramara (1): One person between the age of 45 and 64. The case was due to travel.
  • Oro-Medonte (0): Zero new cases.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on June2.
