Two Barrie residents among 16 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Muskoka today

Barrie cases include one person under 18 and the other between 35 and 44; Cases were community-acquired and from close contact

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 16 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (June 1). 

There are currently 303 cases in the region still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,932 cases of COVID-19 with 10,961 of those cases recovered and 245 cases ending in death.

There are 25 people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which is an increase of four new hospitalization since yesterday. 

The health unit has reported a total of 4,597 variant strain cases, with 185 of those still active. 

The health unit says 320,459 (53 per cent) of the total population of Simcoe-Muskoka residents have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19. Of those, 38,316 people (6.3 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Collingwood (0): Zero new cases reported
  • Wasaga Beach (0): Zero new cases reported
  • Clearview (0): No new cases reported.
  • Springwater (0): Zero new cases.
  • Barrie (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between the ages of 45 and 64.
  • Innisfil (4): Three people between 18 and 34, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. One is outbreak-related and one is from close contact.
  • Bradford (6): Four people between 18 and 34, one person between 35 and 44 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is community acquired and one is from close contact.
  • Orillia (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Tiny (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Essa (0): Zero new cases.
  • New Tecumseth (3): One person under the age of 18, one person and 34, one person between 45 and 64 years old and one person over the age of 80. One was linked to close contact transmission and one is outbreak related.
  • Midland (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Tay (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Severn (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Penetanguishene (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Ramara (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Oro-Medonte (1): One person between the ages of 45 and 64 years old.

The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on June1.
