Truck slams into downtown building (video)

Barrie woman faces several charges in relation to an occurrence on Mary Street, which took place just after early Saturday morning

A 31-year-old Barrie woman is facing several charges in relation to an occurrence on Mary Street, which took place early Saturday.

Around 1 a.m., Saturday, a pick-up truck slammed into the side of 36 Mary St., and then into the front entrance, causing significant damage.

In a video obtained by BarrieToday, the vehicle can be seen being approached by police and it is then that the driver accelerates and runs into the building, leased by the Hope City Church.

Hope City Church pastor Kevin Mast told BarrieToday he was called by police in the early morning hours and told of the crash.

“We were notified by police just after 1 a.m. that a truck had driven through the front of the building,” said Mast. “The driver of the vehicle was a female and was taken to hospital for minor injuries, but I don’t know what those injuries were.”

“Fortunately no one was hurt here in the building as it is under renovation and is slated to be the expansion of our Hope Centre to become a standalone counselling and treatment centre for trauma-informed care and addiction," he said. "It is a minor setback, but it will be fine.”

The driver was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and held for a bail hearing.

Charges include:

  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Possess Schedule 1 Substance CDSA
  • Impaired Operation
  • Three counts of Breach Probation.
