Transport driver accused of careless driving in Tottenham crash (update: no charges laid)

Nottawasaga OPP advise us that no charges in fact have been laid against Daniel Webster.

As a result of information that has been received and confirmed by Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment, the previous media release which identified that a charge had been laid under the Highway Traffic Act as a result of yesterday’s motor vehicle collision was provided in error. 

The investigation is complete and no charges will be laid against the driver of the tractor trailer.   The OPP wishes to apologize for this error.

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH – At approximately 11:05 am. on January 14, 2016, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Nottawasaga Detachment, received a report of motor vehicle crash on Queen Street South, in Tottenham.

This crash involved a tractor trailer which had been travelling northbound, crossed the roadway, and continued northbound along the sidewalk where it damaged the front of two buildings, the Remax Real Estate, the Canada Post Office and came to rest after smashing into a Convenience Store.

The driver of the tractor trailer unit was transported to an area hospital for observation due to a reported knee injury.

This was the only injury reported in this incident. This area of Queen Street is usually quite busy with pedestrians particularly in the area of the Post Office.

47-year-old, Daniel WEBSTER of London, Ontario has been charged with Careless Driving.

OPP were assisted by New Tecumseth Fire Services, Simcoe County paramedics, Town of New Tecumseth Engineering Dept. and Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Unit.

Investigation is continuing.
