Starting Aug. 3, the City of Barrie’s Summer Fun Trailer pilot project will begin travelling to various parks and recreation facilities for the 2021 summer season. The trailer will be filled with loanable outdoor sports equipment and a mobile skateboard park.

“The Summer Fun Trailer allows the city to offer new and flexible ways to provide recreation services all over the community throughout the summer,” notes Rob Bell, director of recreation and culture services. “We are bringing accessible recreation services, and summer fun, to people right in their own neighbourhoods.”

Participants can borrow outdoor sports equipment from the trailer – like scooters, basketballs and outdoor games – or use the mobile skateboard park. All equipment is free to use, and participants can access the contents of the trailer on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can also bring their own equipment to use on the mobile skateboard park.

Participants can test out the contents of the trailer today at Holly Community Centre until 4 p.m., at East Bayfield Community Centre on Thursday, July 29 or Eastview Arena on Friday, July 30, before the trailer starts moving to various parks and recreation facilities around Barrie starting Aug. 3.

Participants can view the trailer’s pop-up schedule at barrie.ca/SummerFunTrailer. The trailer will visit as many local neighbourhoods as possible throughout the summer.

While using the contents of the trailer, participants are required to adhere to all COVID-19 guidelines set out by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and Province of Ontario.
