Every year, the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Auxiliary honours deserving members at an annual Auxiliary Awards celebration.

At the award ceremony Mona Taylor, was honoured with the Award of Distinction - the highest Auxiliary award.

Mona has been a volunteer with RVH for 22 years working in various areas from greeting patients and visitors in the main lobby; to the surgery department and in the Health Library. She previously received the Award of Merit, Outstanding Service Award, Life Membership and the Provincial Life Membership.

“At RVH we have one of the largest and most dedicated Auxiliaries in the country,” says Janice Skot, president and CEO. “Year after year, they tirelessly fundraise for new services and equipment at RVH and we couldn’t be more thankful for their dedication and belief in RVH. This ceremony is a chance to thank our Auxiliary members for the mark they leave on every square foot of this health centre. Simply put, we couldn’t do what we do without their invaluable contributions.”

During the awards celebration Ruth Bulpit was recognized for her remarkable 40 years of volunteer service. Ruth has accumulated 1,971 hours volunteering in many special projects as well as a Patient Meals Assistant and in Recreation Therapy.

In addition Nancy Bates and Jennifer Srigley were honoured for 35 years of service and Ruby Cox, Lydia Gwilliam, Diane Oliver, Sally Shirley and Pat Ummels received their 25 year service pins. The RVH Auxiliary also recognized members with Awards of Merit, Outstanding Service Awards and Life Memberships.

The 750 volunteers at RVH provide an extra set of hands in 80 different areas of the health centre, and through the dedicated efforts of the Auxiliary, raise funds to support equipment purchases and patient care. The RVH Auxiliary is currently working to fulfill a $2 million pledge in support of the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program and the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Mental Health Program.
