Off road vehicle charges

INNISFIL - On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, around 2:20 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Traffic and Marine constable was patrolling Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona, when he spotted three off road vehicles approaching.

Off road vehicles are permitted to operate on Innisfil roads, but must maintain a speed of no more than 20 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

The officer noted that they were speeding, and activated his radar device.

The lead vehicle registered at 81 km/h, and the other two at 71 km/h.

As they passed the police car, all three sped up.

At the intersection of Adullam Drive, one dirt bike made the turn and continued north.

The second motorcycle spun out, and the ATV with him stopped to render assistance.

When the officer arrived, both drivers were apprehended.

The motorcyclist was not injured.

The two men, both from Brampton, were investigated and charged.

The motorcyclist was charged with six offences, including stunt driving.

His licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle impounded.

The ATV rider, who was wearing an unapproved helmet, was charged with five offences, including stunt driving and driving without a licence.

His vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

The third rider, who fled the scene, turned himself in on Thursday.

The Innisfil man was charged with four offences, including stunt driving.

His licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle impounded.

South Simcoe Police remind the public that the operation of motor vehicles is strictly legislated.

Anyone driving a motor vehicle, be it a car, motorcycle or ATV, must do so within the parameters of all laws; federal, provincial and municipal.

Driving is a privilege, not a right, and the South Simcoe Police will continue to aggressively target those who make our roads and highways unsafe.
