Three drivers charged with impaired driving in three days

Two drivers were apprehended as a result of routine traffic stops, one after a call reporting a possible impaired driver

ORILLIAOver the past few days, the Orillia Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Highway Safety Division (HSD) arrested three persons for impaired driving offences.

On June 20, 2017 at approximately 11 a.m., members of the Orillia OPP were dispatched to a call for a possible impaired driver on Coldwater Road in the City of Orillia. Upon arrival, police found Harold Holgate, age 58 of Orillia, to be driving while impaired. As a result, the driver was charged with the following offences:

  • Driving while ability impaired contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

On June 22, 2017 at approximately 4:15 a.m. while on patrol, members of the Orillia OPP observed a motor vehicle on Atherley Road in the City of Orillia, and conducted a routine traffic stop. Upon interaction with the driver, it was determined he was impaired. As a result of the investigation, police charged David Guitard, age 55 of Adjala-Tosorontio, with the following offences:

  • Driving while ability impaired contrary to Section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

On June 22, 2017 at approximately 4:30 p.m., members of the Highway Safety Division conducted a routine traffic stop for a Highway Traffic Act offence on Sturgeon Bay Road in Severn Township. As a result of the traffic stop, police initiated an impaired driving investigation. As a result of the investigation, police charged Darrell Hill, Age 45 of Oro-Medonte, with the following offences:

  • Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in blood contrary to Section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

All persons were released on a Promise to Appear for July 11, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia.
