Three dogs killed in residential fire

SPRINGWATER FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES

TOWNSHIP OF SPRINGWATER - At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, Springwater Fire and Emergency Services responded to a reported working structure fire on Sunnidale Road.

Two stations and 30 Springwater firefighters responded to the call with additional tankers brought from north Springwater to assist with water supply. An automatic aid agreement was also enacted with Essa Fire to provide assistance.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fully involved single family dwelling. Crews immediately established a defensive attack and worked on protecting multiple exposures. The fire was brought under control by 1 a.m. 

Two occupants were home at the time of the fire, but were able to escape safely with one of their dogs. However, three dogs have perished in the blaze. The home is considered a total loss and the damage is estimated at $350,000.

“Firefighters did a great job battling this fire last night, they fought through the cold elements and dangerous slippery conditions to bring the flames under control quickly and prevent it from spreading,” says Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however is not deemed suspicious.
