Ontario’s Education, Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) announced today that it plans to score completed Ontario Secondary School Literacy Tests (OSSLT) and tests that had a significant portion complete.

The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has provided this information to staff, students and parents. Read EQAO’s letter to parents.

"We recognize the significance of this important graduation requirement," says Peter Beacock, Chair, SCDSB. "We are very pleased for our students that this decision has been made."

“I’m thankful for the response EQAO is giving to our students,” says Kathi Wallace, Director of Education. “I'm appreciative of their work to investigate whether the OSSLT could be scored and their consideration of the feedback from school boards and the education community. We're pleased many of our students will have their OSSLT marked and, if successful, will have completed their graduation requirement.”

EQAO has said the results will be available to schools in January. Schools can then identify students who will need to write the OSSLT again on Mar. 30, 2017, or who may complete the literacy course in place of the OSSLT.
