NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF BARRIE

Make plans to ring in the New Year in Barrie! The 18th annual Downtown Countdown will feature an amazing line-up of Canadian talent not to be missed.

In partnership with Rock 95 and 107.5 Kool FM, the City of Barrie is excited to welcome The Sheepdogs, currently one of Canada’s biggest rock acts, to headline the Downtown Countdown.

The band has just released their 5th album, ‘Future Nostalgia’, with lead single ‘Downtown’ hitting the Top 5 on Canadian rock radio.

They are four time Juno Award winners and have achieved success in both Canada and the US with previous hits, including ‘I Don’t Know’, ‘Feeling Good’, and ‘The Way It Is’.

They are sure to deliver an amazing live show with their take on classic guitar rock, what they call “pure, simple, good-time music”.

The Downtown Countdown will also feature entertainment for the younger crowd with Juno Award winners, Judy & David.

Among the most prolific children’s song writers in North America, Judy & David have 18 recordings which have sold over 5 million copies in 12 countries.

They are the stars of JiggiJump TV series on Kids’ CBC and will be sure to lead families in a high energy musical adventure.

Rounding out the line-up will be the emerging talent of two great bands, Sun K and the Dead Mechanics.

Sun K hails from the GTA and features the unique sound of grassroots folk rock splintered with blues sensibilities.

In September, the City invited local acts to submit for the opportunity to perform at the event.

The Dead Mechanics were selected from over 30 submissions, and are sure to put on a great show before a hometown crowd.

In addition to a fantastic entertainment line-up, this free celebration outside City Hall in downtown Barrie will include skating on the Circle at the Centre rink, horse-drawn wagon rides, roaming performers, fun family activities, and fireworks all beginning at 6:00pm.
