Innisfil homeowners will pay more for town services next year, after council approved a 6.5 per cent property tax levy increase this week.

It’s a complicated formula to figure out the impact for homeowners, as the rate is blended with County and education taxes.

On average, the blended increase will tack an additional $68 onto the annual tax bill of an “average” home in the town.

Council approved the budget Wednesday, with practically no debate.

Improvements to Innisfil Beach Park totalling more than $1 million are included in the approved budget.

Councillor Stan Daurio said he was concerned that the rate of staff hirings "continues to exceed population growth and the work we are getting done."

Deputy Mayor Lynn Dollin questioned the plan to hire four full-time firefighters in 2016 which she says “contravenes the fire master plan” which recommended hiring additional volunteers in favour of full-time staff.

“I’m also still concerned about the 24-hour shift for firefighters because I don’t think that has done anything to save us money,” she said.
