Talk Is Free Theatre buzzing about free, in-person summer lineup

'It's time for people to get out and safely enjoy the theatre and each other,' says Richard Varty

Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) is heading outdoors to present a 2021 summer season that will be free and in front of an audience.

The Bees In The Bush Festival runs from Aug. 3 to Oct. 3 and will feature 12 productions with settings including parks, conservation areas, residential backyards and more.

TIFT outreach director Richard Varty told BarrieToday everything will be done with the proper COVID-19 protocols and they are just happy to get back to entertaining the community.

“We’ll be performing across Simcoe County in some fun, unique spaces,” Varty said. “It was all about finding ways to work safely within the restrictions. A lot of what we’re doing is suited to being outdoors, so it works perfectly.”

Six world premieres will also be produced, including one performance piece created by Simcoe Contemporary Dancers.

All programming will be free, and subject to TIFT’s booking policy available at the website

Talk Is Free Theatre supporters are offered exclusive booking privileges starting on June 15. Bookings will be open to the general public starting July 5.

Varty stressed to the public that the event is free and hopes to see everyone attending having a good time.

“Yes, it is free. A lot of people second guess that idea, but I assure you this will be free,” he said. “It's time for people to get out and safely enjoy the theatre and each other.”
