The Georgian College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Todd Talbot as the new head coach of the women’s basketball varsity program.

Talbot brings a wealth of coaching experience including locally as a head coach with the Next Level basketball program, the IEM basketball program out of Newmarket and as a camp coach at the inaugural Demar DeRozan basketball camp in Toronto.

Last season, he also served as an assistant coach of Georgian’s women’s team under previous head coach Andrew Broeren, who stepped down from his position earlier this summer to spend more time with his family.

Talbot also brings playing experience at the OCAA level having played two seasons at Cambrian College from 1996-98, where he also served as team captain.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” said Talbot. “It puts me in good position to help build the program. I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with the team we have now and build toward the future.”

Having worked with the team last season, Talbot already has a strong familiarity and bond with the players on the roster who are returning.

“I’m grateful to Andrew for bringing me on board as an assistant last season," he said. "It was a great experience working with the student-athletes and I think that will help going forward as we build this into a winning program.”

Talbot will make his Georgian head-coaching debut in the fall with the women’s basketball OCAA regular season getting underway in October.

“We are thrilled to have Todd join us as the new head coach of the women’s basketball team,” said intercollegiate co-ordinator Jeff Harris. “We are excited about his vision for the present and future of the program.”

“His attention to detail, both on and off the court, will be a big benefit for our student-athletes.”

Tryouts for this year’s team will take place in September with exact dates being announced in the coming weeks.
