Barrie police now say a masked man who forced his way into a Broadfoot Drive home on Tuesday knew what he was looking for.

"Based on his utterances he was looking for something very specific," said Det. Const. Adam Morris of Investigative Services.

Morris won't elaborate on exactly what that was in order to protect the homeowners.

It was around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday when a man armed with a knife forced his way into the home through the front door.

The homeowners quickly escaped to a neighbour's house and called 911.

No one was hurt.

The intruder ran out of the house through the backdoor.

Police and the canine unit searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.

It's believed he may have left the area in an unknown vehicle.

Investigators think the attack was targeted.

The mystery deepens because the homeowners say they don't believe they know the intruder.

But they did note one outstanding characteristic.

"According to the homeowners, the suspect has a distinctive voice," explained Morris.

Police obtained surveillance video from the area but won't be releasing it at this time.

"The video confirms what the homeowners told us. It captured the suspect's escape,"  Morris said.

The suspect is described as white, wearing a bandanna over his face, green camouflage jacket and heavy boots.

He was carrying a knife.

By releasing additional details about the incident, detectives are hoping to catch a break.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Morris, Investigative Services at 705-725-7025, ext. 2548, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, leave an anonymous tip or online atwww.tipsubmit.com
