Suspect in Collingwood double-murder makes brief court appearance today

Cameron Gardiner, 57, faces two counts of second-degree murder

A man accused with murdering two people in Collingwood in January is scheduled to return to a Barrie courtroom on April 1 via video remand.

Cameron Gardiner, 57, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the Jan. 22 deaths of 52-year-old Dean Copkov and 42-year-old Donovan Bass, both of whom died at Gardiner's home on Matthew Way in Collingwood.

Police have not released the cause of death for the two Wasaga Beach men.

As previously reported, witnesses reported hearing three loud bangs, the sound of shattering glass and screams around 1:30 a.m.

One witness said she saw a body outside covered by a tarp. She described the body as a male wearing jeans, a camouflage coat with no shirt underneath, and a mask.

Gardiner, who is being held at Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene, has appeared in front of a judge three times in Collingwood before his counsel had the case moved to Barrie for this fourth appearance.

Gardiner is scheduled to be back in court on Monday, April 1 via video.
