Two masked men wanted for trying to hold-up a Barrie convenience store are also suspected of robbing a Tim Hortons in York Region later the same night.

The robbery at the Hasty Market located at 490 Mapleview Drive West in the south end took place around 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say two men, armed with a hand gun and a knife, made a demand for money of the two clerks who were working.

Barrie Police Const. Sarah Bamford says the clerks complied with the robbers demands.

"But one employee was unable to open the cash register. One of the suspects hit him with the gun."

The employee was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre where he received several stitches to the side of his head and was released.

The suspects left the scene empty handed in a silver Honda Civic, which had been reported stolen days prior from the G.T.A.

"They just fled from the store. They got nothing," said Bamford.

Store owner Andy Shah says he always tells his employees that fighting back is not worth it.

"You can replace the money not the life," said Shah, who has owned the business for a year.

Barrie Police say the same suspects are wanted by York Regional Police after an armed robbery two hours later at a Tim Hortons near Don Mills Road and Steeles Avenue East in Markham.

In that incident, police the suspects jumped over the front counter.

One of the suspects assaulted a female employee and made a demand for cash from the till.

The other suspect stood by, pointing a handgun at employees.

The employees complied with the demands and the suspects escaped to an awaiting car, which fled south on Don Mills Road.

The suspects are described as:

  • Male, white
