The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)’s Model United Nations event will be held on April 13. It has been taking place for 32 years, bringing together over 100 high school students from eight schools to discuss world issues.

“The Model UN gives students an authentic opportunity to experience firsthand how the global community comes together,” says Robert Howatson, Canadian and world studies teacher, Banting Memorial High School. “Each student assumes the role of a delegate representing a country from one of the five regions around the world.”

The student delegate represents and debates the interests, beliefs and ideals of their respective country when addressing this year’s chosen issues of discussion – famine, the global drug trade and gene modification.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the SCDSB Education Centre, located at 1170 Highway 26 in Midhurst. Banting Memorial High School is organizing this year’s event.
