Step back in time at Simcoe County Museum's Victorian Christmas

Visitors invited to come get into the Christmas spirit Dec. 8 and 9

Experience what Christmas looked, sounded and tasted like during the Victorian era at the Simcoe County Museum.

The museum, located at 1151 Highway 26 just north of Barrie, will be hosting its annual Victoria Christmas on Thursday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 9  from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors are invited to come get into the Christmas spirit at the authentic Victorian Christmas event, full of fun for the entire family. Outside, you can stroll along the site’s lantern-lit pathways and explore the museum’s decorated heritage buildings while warming up with a hot drink.

Enjoy being transported through the snowy forest on a horse-drawn wagon and while inside, you can check out a show on the antique Magic Lantern or join in with carollers in the 150-year-old church

If you’re looking to get some early shopping done, consider taking home some unique one-of-a-kind gifts made by local artisans - or make your own traditional crafts and treats to take home for the holidays.

The site will be filled with the sounds of traditional Christmas music as you sample a Victorian Christmas, complete with some sweets for you to try, and maybe even a sighting of Father Christmas.

Admission to the event is by donation, and all proceeds go to the Friends of the Simcoe County Museum, a not-for-profit organization that supports the Museum through fundraising, volunteering and assistance with special events. Visitors are also encouraged to bring donations for the Barrie Food Bank and the Simcoe County Paramedics’ Christmas Toy Drive.
