St. Kitts fans 13 batters as Baycats take Game 2 in Steeltown

Barrie can take a 3-0 series lead in best-of-seven series with a victory Sunday night at Coates Stadium

HAMILTON – Matthew St. Kitts struck out 13 in a complete-game shutout as the Barrie Baycats blanked the Hamilton Cardinals 1-0 Friday night in Game 2 of the best-of-seven semifinal at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. 

Barrie leads the series 2-0 with Game 3 Sunday in Barrie. 

St. Kitts (2-0) scattered six hits and didn't issue a walk. 

Offensively, Kyle DeGrace's two-out double scored Starlin Rodriguez in the top of the sixth for the game's only run. Rodriguez had two of Barrie's seven hits. 

Jon Dziomba singled and tripled for Hamilton, which had its chances but stranded eight baserunners. Grant Arnold added a double. 

Chris Lazar (2-1) also went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits with two walks

Leafs-Panthers game suspended in eighth 

KITCHENER – Game 1 between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Kitchener Panthers Friday night at Jack Couch Park was suspended in the eighth inning due to rain with the Leafs leading 4-3. 

It will be resumed Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Toronto, with Game 2 starting 20 minutes after the completion of the opener. 

Jonathan Solazzo drove in two for the Leafs, while Aaron Hornostaj added two hits and an RBI. Mike Reeves went 2-for-4 with a run, Connor Lewis had a sacrifice fly, and Justin Marra picked up two hits. 

Andrew Simonetti went seven innings on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. 

For Kitchener, Keegan Marsden's two-run double in the first inning gave the Panthers an early lead. Tanner Nivins made it 3-0 an inning later after a fielder's choice. 

Jonder Martinez started and went five innings, giving up a run on four hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
