Springwater Township Mayor Don Allen’s impaired and dangerous driving charges will proceed to a trial later this year.

Allen’s case was back in court today in Collingwood, but he did not attend.

A note from his counsel, read by the Crown attorney, asked for the charges to proceed to a trial and stated his counsel expected the trial to last more than one day.

A pre-trial date has been set for Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, in Collingwood.

According to a news release from Huronia West OPP issued on Aug. 6, Allen, 67, was charged with impaired and dangerous driving after a June 26 incident.

Police report they received a traffic complaint and officers responded to the call at a business parking lot on Wilson Drive in Springwater Township, where witnesses allegedly saw an impaired driver leaving the lot.

The news release said officers conducted patrols of the area, but could not locate the vehicle.

"The investigation into this occurrence has now led police to charge the driver of the vehicle," the release stated.

The charges have not been proven in court.
