Barrie and the surrounding areas are under a special weather statement.

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning and a wind warning for Southern Ontario.

The statements say to expect heavy rain at times and gusty winds through Thursday.

It's all due to a strong fall storm that is expected to drench Southern Ontario.

A wind warning is issued for 70 km/hr or higher of sustained wind and/or gusts to 90 km/hr or more.

These winds may be enough to damage trees and cause local power outages.

The rainfall warning is active for the next 15 hours according to Environment Canada.

The national forecaster says the heavy rain could cause pooling of water on roads due to blocked catch basins.

It also says watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

It states that heavy rainfall will continue until this evening with amounts of 45 to 55 millimetres expected.

The rain and strong winds will end by Friday as the fall storm moves away into Northern Quebec.
