Back to school 2019 is right around the corner and we are ready with our annual safety campaign 'Operation All Hands on Deck'.
Officers will be out in full force at local schools when classes resume on Sept. 3, 2019 to promote safety and education. We will be watching for speeding, aggressive driving, failing to stop for stop signs, impaired and distracted driving and illegal parking.
Our traffic monitoring and enforcement blitz at all schools in Innisfil and Bradford runs for two weeks and will involve all available officers. Motorists are reminded to stop for school buses, watch for pedestrians, obey crossing guards and reduce speed in school zones.
Failing to yield at pedestrian crosswalks, school crossings, and crossovers with a crossing guard present is an up to $1,000 fine and four demerit points.
Failure to stop for a school bus with red lights flashing is a fine of up to $2000 and six demerit points for a first offence. Fines are doubled in Community Safety Zones— near schools and public areas. These areas are clearly marked with signs. Slow down and make school zones safe for students.
The first week of the new school year is traditionally the busiest as parents, caregivers and students return to regular routines. Please give yourself extra time next week to ensure you are not rushed and use extra caution on the roads. Let's work together to makes this a safe school year.
