Talk Is Free Theatre (TIFT) announced their immense honour of partnering with a local couple and making their joyful celebration a surreal and magical experience the company is calling Something Bubbled, Something Blue.
Here is the story...
Eden Lake, a dedicated elementary school teacher, and Zara Rose met in a park two years ago and fell in love. Last fall, they celebrated their anniversary and as the sun set, Zara got down on one knee, proposing to Eden in the same spot where they had met.
The two vowed to get married in September of 2020 in that very park.
Their spirits flagged when with the advent of the pandemic.
However, determined to share their love, and with a little help from their friends in the arts, Eden and Zara have resolved to transform their special day into a unique ceremony to share with as many people as possible.
Through music, choreography, live art, and using inflatable Zorbs as personal bubbles, Something Bubbled, Something Blue is an event to celebrate a beloved communal ritual no matter the restrictions.
This re-imagining of a traditional wedding inspired the National Arts Centre to select Talk Is Free Theatre and Something Bubbled, Something Blue to be part of one of the most exciting national projects in recent memory.
As the performing arts sector continues to face unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Arts Centre has responded with Grand Acts of Theatre, an initiative to bring Canadian artists and audiences together.
Eleven of Canada’s most innovative theatre companies have been engaged to create and perform large-scale, new works in response to these times, which will be performed outdoors in front of live audiences in various Canadian locations, filmed, and later shared online. Helping the couple create the most memorable experience are co-creators Mitchell Cushman and Anahita Dehbonehie, Choreographer Cameron Carver, Sound Designer and Composer Josh Doerksen and Artistic Consultant Richard Lam.
The ceremony will last approximately 20 minutes. TIFT recommends standing for a better view, however, they will be happy to make alternate arrangements for those who require it.
There is only a capacity for 30 guests and guests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event will be filmed for online national distribution. By attending the wedding, guests agree to appear in the filming and sharing of video material.
The safety of the wedding party and all guests are of the utmost importance. As the wedding will be held outdoors in a public park, the following precautions will be taken:
- All guests must provide their name and phone number for easier tracing, with the option of information not being used for any other purpose
- A screening checklist will be completed prior to entry for all guests
- Masks must be worn by all guests at all times, unless prevented by a medical condition
- The venue has been measured extensively to ensure social distancing measures are met and maintained for each guest (or their bubble), as well as between them and the wedding party
- There is a limit of 30 guests and RSVPs will be accepted on a first-com-first-serve basis
- Additional measures might be put in place at the direction of health officials.
In case of rain, the start time of the ceremony may be changed on Sept. 12 or the ceremony may be postponed to Sept. 13. All guests will be notified as soon as possible.
