*************************
Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake

Lake effect snow squalls are possible this afternoon.

In the wake of a cold front, a blast of cold arctic air is expected to flow over the relatively warm waters of Georgian Bay today.

Flurries and local snow squalls are expected to begin this afternoon and continue into Wednesday morning.

Local snowfall amounts 5 to 10 cm are possible today and amounts of 15 to 25 cm are possible tonight into Wednesday morning. Local blowing snow reducing visibilities to near zero will also be a concern.

Local snow squalls are expected to taper off when the winds shift to southwest Wednesday afternoon.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Road closures are possible.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
