WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
***************************
Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

Snow squalls today into Sunday morning.

Hazards:
Sudden near zero visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Snowfall accumulations of 15 to 20 cm over some locations.

Timing:
Now through Sunday morning.

Discussion:
Scattered snow squalls will develop in strong southwesterly winds this morning and continue into tonight when winds become northwesterly. More widespread snow squalls in these northwest winds will continue into Sunday morning. Strong gusty winds will also lead to widespread blowing snow. Non-essential travel is discouraged as visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Snow squalls will taper off by Sunday morning or early afternoon.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
